Smart Agriculture with Remote Voice Response System and ABB Softstarter
Efficiency in agricultural irrigation requires the right intervention at the right time. However, physically being in the field to control pumps in large areas creates a serious loss of time and waste of labor. We completely eliminate this problem with our newly developed automation project! Thanks to the integration of ABB PSR Series 22.5kW Softstarter and Remote Voice Response System (IVR), we have brought field irrigation processes to the tip of your mobile phone.
Technologies Used and Their Functions
ABB PSR Series 22.5kW Softstarter
The biggest enemy of powerful motors used in irrigation systems is the mechanical stress and high starting currents caused by sudden starts and stops. Thanks to the 22.5kW ABB PSR series soft starter we used in our project, we enabled our water pump to start and stop smoothly without overloading the grid. This significantly extends the motor life and prevents plumbing failures by eliminating the "water hammer" effect in the pipelines.
Remote Voice Response System (IVR)
We integrated a special Voice Response System into the system to ensure uninterrupted control even in rural areas where the internet connection is weak or non-existent. Even without a smartphone, you can start or stop the pump with answering machine directions by calling the number the system is connected to.
How the System Works?
The user calls the system's number with their mobile phone from anywhere in the world.
The Secure Voice Response System (IVR) activates and requests a password or keypress from the user.
The dialed command (e.g., "Press 1 to start the pump") is transmitted to the control panel.
The panel sends a command to the ABB Softstarter and the 22.5kW irrigation pump starts pumping water smoothly and safely without any mechanical shock.
When the process is over, the system can be safely turned off with a single call.
